PEOPLE living in rural communities around Malvern can now take advantage of a new flexible transport scheme.
Community Action Malvern and District has launched the bus service to allow those living in Berrow, Birtsmorton, Castlemorton, Longdon and Pendock and unable to access public transport the chance to travel to Great Malvern and Malvern Retail Park.
A pilot service will run every Tuesday, with support from Worcestershire County Council, using one of the charity’s minibuses to provide a door-todoor service. Places will need to be booked in advance.
Jacci Phillips, chief officer at Community Action Malvern and District, said: “This scheme aims to be as flexible as possible, picking up from any agreed point. To make this pilot scheme become permanent, we need to urge people to use the service.
“Community Action relies on volunteer drivers for all of our services so if you have a few hours to spare, then please give me a ring.”
County councillor John Smith, cabinet member with responsibility for highways and transport, said: “The scheme will provide significant assistance to people who have difficulty in accessing mainstream services or mobility problems.
“Transport is one of the critical components of our ability to maintain people in their homes for as long as possible, maximise their independence and allow them to play an active part in their community.”
