A YOUTH volunteer from Hanley Swan, near Malvern, will be part of the 2012 Olympics in London this summer.

Amie Sauntson, aged 18, of Winnington Gardens, has been accepted as an Olympic Games Maker, one of thousands of volunteers who will play a vital part in ensuring the massive sports jamboree is a success.

Miss Sauntson, a former pupil of Hanley Castle High School, went for an interview last year, and has now learned that her application has been successful.

She said: “I’ve been told I will be based at Horse Guards Parade, which is where the beach volleyball is being held. I’m really looking forward to it. Some people are wondering why I’m doing it when I don’t get paid, but it will be a real experience. How often do you get the chance to be part of something like the Olympics?”

Miss Sauntson was named young volunteer of the year in the first-ever Malvern Hills District Sports Awards in December 2010. She is an apprentice at the Magic Moments nursery in Kempsey.

She helps out with sport at Hanley Swan Primary School and Malvern Hills Gymnastics Club, and has also volunteered for Welland Football Club.
