A DOCTORS surgery has won a national award for its work supporting carers.
Upton Surgery, in Tunnel Hill, Upton-upon-Severn, has received the Caring About Carers Award from the Princess Royal Trust for Carers and the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP).
The surgery was named as one of four regional champions as well as the overall UK winner.
The RCGP said Upton Surgery’s entry stood out even over the other high quality nominations, and that it was particularly impressed by carer identification procedures, the services provided and the evidence of genuine partnership with carers.
Dr Susanna Everitt, a senior partner at the surgery, said: “We are delighted that we have been nominated and fortunate enough to win.
“It highlights the work of the whole primary care team, community, patients and their carers as being vital for the patients’ journey. Being a rural town with hamlets covering some 70 square miles, there is a very close community which has to be innovative and forward looking to access all the available support.
“This award allows us to reflect on the good work that is undertaken on a daily basis by the whole primary health care team.”
The surgery will receive a certificate signed by the Princess Royal and a commemorative plaque.
