MALVERN is set to be awash with red, white and blue this summer as the town’s In Bloom team adopts a patriotic theme for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
The town will be bidding for its fourth successive gold award in the large towns category of the Heart of England in Bloom contest.
And Malvern in Bloom chairman John Jordan said they would be pulling out all the stops with a red, white and blue colour scheme for floral displays and various other nods to the national celebrations that will be taking place in June.
These will include decking the town with Union Jack and St George Cross flags and incorporating a new buzzards statue, which is due to be installed in Rosebank Gardens to celebrate the jubilee, into the judging route.
“The Diamond Jubilee will obviously be a very significant event in 2012 for people both in Malvern and all over the country,”
said Mr Jordan.
“It should be a very patriotic celebration and we will be trying to incorporate as much of that spirit as possible into our entry.”
Mr Jordan’s ultimate ambition for this year is to add the elusive title of category winner to Malvern’s catalogue of successes.
“That is always our aim and this year will be no different. But we have to be realistic and accept that we are up against some particularly strong competition in our category,” he said. “As ever all we can do is our best and hope that is enough.”
A Malvern in Bloom meeting, which was provisionally scheduled for Thursday January 12 had to be postponed. A new date has not yet been confirmed.
