POLICE from across south Worcestershire have been rewarded for their excellence and bravery, including incidents which took place in the Malven area.
They received commendations from local policing commander superintendent Stephen Cullen at West Mercia Police headquarters.
Supt Cullen said: “Much of policing can be mundane. However, these awards have been given for acts of bravery, courage, meticulous investigation and community engagement to colleagues who all have something in common – a willingness to help others and go that extra mile.
“Despite being a police officer for almost 20 years, I never fail to be inspired by events such as this.”
Among those receiving awards were:
Sgt Simon Arinze and acting Sgt Alastair Catherwood who attended an address in Malvern on November 7 where a man had collapsed in the bathroom.
The paramedic had managed to enter the house and was tending to the man, who was in cardiac arrest, unconscious and not breathing.
Sgt Arinze immediately began CPR while the paramedic administered adrenaline. Sgt Arinze and PC Catherwood then took turns to administer chest compressions and give mouth-to-mouth resuscitation while the paramedic continued with intravenous injections. Thanks to their help the man survived.
Special constable Christopher Francis who was on patrol with a colleague on April 29 when they attended a report of a drunk and aggressive man outside the Royal Oak pub in Leigh Sinton.
The man was bleeding profusely from a significant injury to his wrist and was very anxious and verbally aggressive.
He had been involved in an argument in the pub and as he left had punched the porch window, causing arterial bleeding.
SC Francis managed to calm the man and administer first aid until help arrived. Thanks to his treatment, the man survived.
