A MOUNTAIN biker was flown to hospital after coming off his bike on the Malvern Hills on Sunday.
The incident happened at about 10.40am, between the Wyche Cutting and British Camp.
First on the scene was a volunteer paramedic from the All Terrain Bike Rescue Unit (ATBRU), who administered first aid.
The West Midland Ambulance Service attended, but were unable to get closer than the Black Hill car park, which is about half a mile from where the crash happened.
The ATBRU guided the ambulance crews to the site, where they examined a man in his 40s.
Ambulance spokesman Murray McGregor said: “He had apparently gone over the handlebars and been knocked unconscious for a couple of minutes.
“It’s a good thing he was wearing a helmet. When we reached him, he was conscious but had some neck pain.”
An air ambulance from Strensham was called and the cyclist was flown off to Worcester for further treatment.
ATBRU had come to the assistance of another casualty on the hills the previous day after a runner injured her ankle.
The runner was treated and helped back to her car.
