AN up-and-coming sculptor is opening his workshop up for a two-week exhibition celebrating his most successful commission to date.
Ed Elliott, who grew up in Malvern and has a studio at Trumpet Corner, near Ledbury, was commissioned by the National Trust to produce a human–sized wooden angel statue for display at its Mottisfont estate in Hampshire.
It will be on show there until Thursday, February 2, before being moved to Essex where it will form part of a sculpture collection that also includes works by the likes of Antony Gormley and Elisabeth Frink.
To celebrate the impressive commission, Mr Elliott is inviting local people to an exhibition at his studio called Pieces of an Angel.
It will be open from tomorrow (Saturday) until Tuesday, January 31, and will feature a wide variety of work including drawings, sculptures and even a “work in progress” film shot while Mr Elliott produced his National Trust commission.
“Exhibiting my work with the National Trust was a fantastic opportunity.
“Now having the chance to show the supporting work near my hometown is just brilliant,”
said the former Chase High School student. “The success of this work has given me great confidence and has been a superb way for me to start the new year.”
Mr Elliott is also looking forward to a packed schedule for the rest of 2012. As well as exhibiting across the UK, his work will also be displayed in New Zealand, Italy and Vietnam.
