PARISH councillors in Kempsey are taking more steps to tackle speeding in the village.
The council wants to sign up to West Mercia Safer Roads Partnership’s Community Concerns Programme.
They also discussed placing a permanent speed-activated sign along the busy A38, which runs through the heart of the Kempsey, or sharing the cost of one with a neighbouring village.
Just over 300 residents responded to a speeding survey held in Kempsey by local action group Staying Green in Rural Areas and more than 30 per cent considered it to be a priority issue.
Speed enforcement checks carried out by police this month resulted in one speeding driver receiving a ticket and three vehicles being stopped by officers for a word of advice.
A temporary speed activated sign put up in Kempsey by Worcestershire County Council in October 2009 to highlight the 30mph limit in the village was triggered 31,000 times in a month.
Parish councillors were told that people had been driving at or above the limit on each of those occasions.
