I VISITED Upton expressly to see the Yellow Bridge and wish to add my views to those previously expressed.

First, it was not as bad as I had imagined and feel it would be a terrible waste of money repainting. Especially if by so doing some traders were forced out of business.

If handled imaginatively this error could become a tourist attraction. Would it be possible for WCC to compensate the people of Upton with a sum of money less than the cost of repainting?

This money allocated to promoting competitions that would publicise Upton. When I first heard of the yellow bridge my mind immediately went to the yellow brick road in the Wizard of Oz and pantomime.

After visiting, I could imagine Dorothy crossing the bridge on her travels and meeting up with Dick Whittington and Widow Twanky on her way to buy pepper (a misunderstanding concerning the Pepper Pot). I also imagined the seven, or maybe Severn, dwarfs, singing and marching onto the bridge and setting to work painting.

I suggest a competition for the best written pantomime, also other competitions for rap, limerick and song in various styles would arouse interest in visiting Upton. If radio and television could be involved in following events and the production of a pantomime, maybe even the Japanese would put Upton upon their list of must-see places.
