"LEDBURY'S tourist information centre will open its doors on Saturdays this year if it gets the go-ahead from Malvern Hills District Council," said the Reporter 50 years ago.
"On Wednesday the policy and resources committee was discussing review panel recommendations which if approved would provide a better service for tourists in the town.
"Coun Philip Sharpe-Neale, who has been pushing for a number of years to have the opening hours extended, said: 'It doesn't really go far enough, but it is a step in the right direction.
" 'It is ludicrous that if you go there at 5pm on a Friday during a bank holiday it is closed until Wednesday. The office should be open when tourists are around. If we are going to go into tourism properly, we ought to cater for the tourists.'"
