LAST Saturday evening eighty people were entertained by Hank Wangford and his colleague Brad Breath who gave a tongue-in-the cheek yet talented performance of Country and Western Music to the audience gathered in Callow End Village Hall. Among the array of instruments used were guitars, mandolin, Appalachian dulcimer and ukulele, with a mixture of songs including yodelling! A superb supper of chilli and bread was served with vegetable lasagne as an option, and a raffle and bar completed the evening. The performance was one of the many events brought to village halls by Shindig, keeping rural arts alive. It was good to hear that Arts Council funding is guaranteed for the foreseeable future. Another Shindig evening will be held at Powick Parish Hall on Saturday, May 7 when folk singer Jon Boden will be in concert; tickets from Jim Allsopp are selling fast.
