THE great and the good of Ledbury were deliberating 100 years ago how they should mark the forthcoming coronation.

A public meeting was held, and it was decided a new swimming pool was the best idea.

"The committee reported that they had obtained Mr Martin's consent to a bath being made just above the New Mills, between the mill stream and the Leadon, on certain conditions. which they thought were only reasonable.

"They were satisfied that a swimming bath 70 feet by 30 feet could be established on the spot suggested at a cost rather less that £200, and unanimously recommended this scheme for adoption.

"They have ascertained that the Urban District Council unanimously approved the scheme, and, further, that the Council was prepared to accept the control of the bath when completed."
