100 YEARS AGO On Monday, James Barnes, of West Malvern, whilst following his employment at the Colwall Park Quarry, met with a serious accident. He was driving an engine, when a truck left the rails, causing the engine to turn over, and his right leg was seriously crushed. He was removed to the Malvern Hospital, where the limb was amputated.

50 YEARS AGO Mr W J Richards (57), director of the Royal Radar Establishment, Malvern, has been appointed the first director of the proposed new staff college for further education set up by the Minister of Education last autumn.

25 YEARS AGO Malvern Hills Conservators have again refused permission for pop concerts on the Link Common amidst criticism of the lack of facilities for young people. Last year the Link Alive concert was allowed by the Conservators, unaware of its nature.

The long-term future of Ledbury's TA Drill Hall in New Street may be in doubt, a spokesman for the Territorial Army said this week. The building is in poor condition and would require a lot of money to be spent on it.
