THE Shelter Box Coffee morning on March 22 raised about £400, well on the way to providing a box containing a tent and requisites for up to ten people. Our thanks to all who supported this event in aid of those made homeless in Japan by earthquake and tsunami.
The Friday Lent Lunches have so far raised £336 to be sent to Christchurch towards the repair of the damaged cathedral. The final two lunches will be at noon on Friday, April 8 and 15. The soups are delicious and the cheese salads are accompanied by excellent bread. Cost is £3 or a donation towards the cathedral fund. Please come and help us to push the total even higher.
We still have Palm Sunday (April 17), Holy Week and Easter Day (April 24) as the culmination of our Lenten journey, but our thoughts are already turning to Sunday, May 1, when following our 10 am morning service we will have a bring and share wedding feast to celebrate the Royal Wedding. We are all invited to decorate and wear a wedding hat, share in wedding cake, toast the newly-weds, and generally enjoy the celebration weekend. We are also planning to write in a card to be sent to William and Kate.
Before the wedding was announced we had planned to have our Summer Fair on the May Day bank holiday on Monday, May 2. Clearly there is too much going on over that weekend and so we have decided to move it to Saturday, June 11. There will be the usual variety of stalls and activities, but we would like to add an ice-cream stall, and here you might help. Would anyone be able to donate or lend a freezer for the day? If you can help please ring me on 01886 832614.
DAVID GUTTERIDGE.
