"SEARCH parties were sent on to the Malvern Hills on Sunday for a group of charity walkers caught in the sudden blizzard," reported the Gazette 25 years ago.

"The teenagers from Gloucestershire were among a group of 40 walking for the Guild for the Disabled.

"They had been separated from the main party and lost as the snow began to fall. Mr Francis Holton, director of the Guild said: 'We were lucky to find them just as the real blizzard started - they were huddled together and looking pretty miserable.'

"Malvern Hills ranger Mr John Parsons said he was sure a lot of people would have been caught by the bad weather, although he had heard of no serious incidents."
