THE annual Cheltenham Music Festival, now in its 65th year, takes place from July 3-18 this year, with symphony concerts, chamber music and opera.
The internationally renowned festival will open with the John Wilson Orchestra for an evening of Hollywood Rhapsody, a treasure trove of thrilling film music from classics like Gone with the Wind to John William’s Star Wars.
The programme promises further gems from great classical orchestras to world class soloists, from string quartets to amazing vocalists.
A Handel Celebration will explore the full breadth of the composers genius and will include the Orchestra of the Age of the Enlightenment and the acting talents of Harry Enfield in a narrative role.
Young Conductor Scott Ellaway will bring together some of the finest musicians in Europe in Orchestra Europa, including star violinist Nicola Benedetti.
In Something Else the festival offers a series of events which explore music through film, talks, children’s events and not-strictly-classical performances. These include Robert Winston in a discussion about genius and creativity and the cabaret act Kit and the Widow.
The festival closes in style with a concert by the Halle led by conductor Edward Gardner. For more information or to book tickets visit the website at www.cheltenhamfestivals.com/music.
