SHAKESPEARE'S The Comedy of Errors is the latest production in the Commandery Gardens by Worcester Live.
Opening next Tuesday (June 9), the play tells the tale of two sets of identical twins, accidentally separated at birth. A series of wild mishaps based on mistaken identities lead to wrongful beatings, a near-incestuous seduction, the arrest of Antipholus of Ephesus, and accusations of infidelity, theft, madness, and demonic possession.
With a cast of both professionally trained actors and the cream of local talent, the show is lighthearted and fun. Director Chris Jeager admits he’s take a few liberties with the script to make the audience laugh.
“I have played it almost exclusively for laughs, and have also taken one or two dialogue liberties," he said." I'm genuinely sure the Bard would not have minded. Bring along your picnic and have a laugh at one of Shakespeare’s funniest plays."
The Comedy of Errors is on daily at 7.30pm until Saturday, June 20 (except Monday, June 15), with a 3pm matinee on Sunday.
Tickets (family £45, £13.50, £12 concessions, £8.50 Sunday matinee) are available from 01905 611427.
