TONIGHT (May 29) is live music night at Malvern Wells Village Club. It begins at 9pm and features the new local star, Shelley Lewis who sings modern ballads and is self accompanied on an acoustic guitar. Shelley made her debut at the last village club event. The rock band PoJo will be taking another spot during the evening with their rock classics of the 70’s and rock and roll hits of the 60’s. Nick Hudson will also be there playing his electric guitar. It is free entry for members and membership is just £1 right up until the end of 2009.
With local school-children still on their half-term holiday, it is a timely reminder to Wells residents using St Peter’s Road in the Wells that there is a polite 10mph notice to protect the children playing out in that street.
Temporary signs, sporting the names of sponsors Three Counties Showground, the Royal Horticultural Society, Sunvil and Select World Travel have appeared in Malvern Wells along Hanley Road and the Wells Road showing the route of the Blooming Hills Floral Trail.
Our gas lamps have hit the news again so keep an eye on the main Gazette stories to follow progress and let the Parish Council know if you are out at night and notice that a lamp has gone out. They are very quick to respond.
Blackmore Park, once the country seat of the Hornyold Family who owned much of the land in Malvern Wells in the 19th century is soon to be home to a number of new businesses that are setting up in this 25 acre business park near the Three Counties Showground. Currently, roads onto the site are being improved along with other infrastructure before the first units are occupied later in the summer..
Malvern Hills District Brass Band was delighted to play to a huge audience in glorious sunny weather last weekend. The ‘Band In The Park’ this Sunday (May 31) is the Lydbrook Band. This band comes from an area with a tradition for brass banding, the Forest of Dean. You are in for a real treat because they have assembled a programme featuring the music of Sir Edward Elgar. They will be playing in Priory Park, Malvern from 2.30pm until 4.30pm.

The next working party for volunteers at the St Wulstan’s Nature Reserve is Wednesday, June 3 from 10.30am until 1pm. There will be two groups, one weeding in the hedgerows and the other maintaining the tree guards. New volunteers will be made most welcome.

A four mile walk around Malvern Wells is planned for Wednesday, June 3 between 5pm and 8.15pm. The leader, Ray Roberts is going to take you down Memory Lane to the 1940’s and share his memories of our village in war-time. You are asked to meet at St. Wulstan’s nature reserve to start the walk which will be relatively easy but will have a few steep paths and roads along the route. This walk will be repeated on Sunday, June 7.
Most of you will have observed the poster boards that have sprung up all over the Wells as part of the election campaign. Polling stations open early on Thursday, June 4 and stay open during the evening so that you can cast your vote even if you are out at work all day.
Some advance notice for a walk where booking is essential is the early morning circular walk from British Camp Car Park next Friday (June 5). It starts at 6am and finishes at around 8am and after your 2½ mile led by the Chairman of Malvern Hills Conservators – Ian Rowat, breakfast will be served at the Malvern Hills Hotel. Next Friday night (June 5) at 8pm is Cribbage night for the Wells Club so please feel free to join in. Membership of the club is just £1.
Wells villagers who went on the Malvernian Tours trip to Tenby on Bank Holiday Monday had a lovely time there and the rain just held off.
