I LISTENED recently with great interest to a radio report of the creation of a No Moan Zone in New Zealand. How I wish we had one in Ledbury!
Your report of the transport of the great stainless steel vessels to the Little Marcle site contained nothing but negative aspects and the grumbles of householders who suffered a slight inconvenience.
When notice was given of the closure of the former Ledbury Preserves site the loss of employment and economic activity was a serious blow. However almost as a miracle, Universal Beverages has been instrumental in creating a business which will be the biggest single investment ever made in Ledbury. Already farmers in the district are planting new cider orchards and planning major expansion. The only public comment so far has been the inevitable whinging at the necessary disruption involved in the fulfilment of the development.
How fortunate we are to have an industry which will provide employment and opportunity, but also is totally compatible with the agricultural character of this wonderful district.
My advice is ... when opportunity knocks do not complain of the noise!
