LAST week, the Malvern Hills Conservators were out on the steep grassy slopes of the Wyche cutting the grass so that everyone can enjoy walking without getting their feet too wet. Thank-you to those concerned. In certain areas, patches have been left to enable wild flowers to bloom.

Pupils from The Wyche CE Primary School have been busy polishing up their hand-writing skills and yesterday their efforts were due to be judged. Today, May 22, the pupils will break up for the one week long Spring Bank Holiday.

If you like Brass Band music, the Bands In The Park series of concerts starts in Priory Park, Malvern on Sunday, May 24 with your local band, Malvern Hills District Brass Band, doing the first concert.

It might be worth climbing up over the Wyche Cutting on Bank Holiday Monday to find out what Colwall has in store for you. By all accounts, they are having a scarecrow event and it promises to be fun entertainment for all the family.

Bank Holiday Monday is also the next Open Acoustic Mic Night at The Wyche Inn and all are welcome to attend.

Keen walkers are urged to pick up a leaflet on the Malvern Walking Festival which starts next week and register at the Tourist Information Centre for any walks that they would like to do. There are several walks taking place within easy reach of the Wyche. Places on the guided walks are filling up fast with the Malvern section of the new long distance footpath The Geopark Way being totally subscribed.

There is a quiz night at The Railway Inn but in order to attract customers, the management is asking that would-be contenders should call into the Inn to find out more. For starters, teams can be up to six in number and it is £1 per person to enter. If it is over by the time this is printed, I will apologise in advance, but I am sure there will be more similar events in the future.

Cyclists of all abilities are being sought to take part in the Macmillan Charity Elgar Bike Ride on Saturday, June 6. You need to be reasonably competent because the distances are 24, 40 and 60 miles. The closing date for entering this charity event is June 1. If you are energetic as far as jogging is concerned, there is just the event for you coming up on Wednesday, June 17 at 7.30pm. It is a 10km multi-terrain race starting and finishing at Welland Village Hall. Entry is £8 (£6 for UK athletes affiliated) with a £2 excess for late entries on the day. Only 250 runners can take part so send your entry forms in straight away.
