IT is now several years since a correspondent wrote to you pointing out the poor state of Abbey Road. However, no repairing was done and the road is now worse than ever, a mass of patches, bumps and pot holes. What visitors to Malvern think of it I shudder to imagine.

Living in an outlying parish with no shops, I have to shop in Malvern, and use the Abbey Road to get to the supermarkets. My poor old car just hates it, particularly at the junction with Priory Road.

Admittedly it is a very busy road and repairing will cause problems and delays, especially as the west side of it is taken up with parked cars, but this is no excuse for neglect. Rather, it means careful planning and preparation, followed by the fastest possible execution, possibly over a weekend or two.

Currently it is a disgrace to the District and County Councils, and those responsible should drop their complacency and get on with it. Much repairing of lesser roads has been done in recent times, so failure to act because of cost cannot be an acceptable excuse.

Incidently, if we ever have a one-way system, Abbey Road will become busier than ever.

May I hope that you will exercise your media influence to support urgent action.
