MANY will be delighted that after several years of debate a decision has been made with a view to easing the traffic problems in Knapp Lane by closing part of the lane to traffic.
I can’t help thinking that a wrong decision has been made regarding the traffic using Knapp Lane. By closing the lane the existing problems are just being moved elsewhere in Ledbury namely to Bank Crescent, Homend Crescent and the already congested town centre.
Traffic calming in Knapp Lane combined with passing places and pedestrian refuges would have been my preferred solution thus controlling the existing problems in Knapp Lane. I hope that during the experimental period of closure people will note the difficulties presented and report back to the authorities concerned so that we can arrive at a realistic and considered decision before the experimental measure becomes permanent.
