LAST Sunday a special service of Evensong was held at St Peter’s Church, Powick when the Bishop of Worcester Right Reverend John Inge gave the sermon based on friendship. Reverend Sue Irwin led the service and readings were by Sally Gurney and Rita de Boer, prayers by Thea Wild and the choir sang a Celtic Blessing with Lindall Brown on organ. Before and after the service refreshments were served and there was a chance to meet the Bishop. Members of Powick Handbell Ringers – Mary Stafford, Cheryl and Chris Lester, Kris Quatermass and Jenny Taylor - played some hymn tunes while people enjoyed their tea.
Next Sunday’s morning worship is a Celtic service based on early Christian traditions from Scotland and Ireland and will celebrate the life of St Brendan, the Navigator. The service is at 11am and will be led by the Readers.
The 112th AGM of the Central Council of Church Bellringers takes place at Sixways Rugby Centre in Worcester during May 22-26 which means that over 200 representatives worldwide will meet and enjoy a full programme of ringing at church towers throughout the county. There will be visiting teams at St Peter’s, Powick during this weekend and on Sunday and also at the church in Madresfield. Many of the ringers will be from Commonwealth countries and the USA where the English tradition of change bell ringing thrives. Do listen out for the bells!
