LEDBURY Swifts played Westfields in the final of the Tony Cole Cup at Edgar Street, home of Hereford United.

In the early stages of the game both teams looked a little nervous, with scoring chances being kept to a minimum.

With the Ledbury’s defence of Lewis Hammond, Max Coleman, Thomas Trigg and goalkeeper Rory Atkins all in top form, Westfields were finding it hard to break them down.

Eventually the deadlock was broken when good work in the middle of the park by Tom Webb led to the ball being played into the Westfields box which picked out Harvey Moss.

His neat pass found Craig Pierce who fired home.

Minutes later another pass from Moss picked out Pierce who made no mistake and sent Swifts into a 2-0 half-time lead.

Westfields came out for the start of the second-half looking more determined but Ledbury’s Joe James and Callum Robinson dealt with their forwards.

With Ledbury looking to finish the game off, strikers Dan Batty and Jake Robson worked tirelessly up front.

The game was finally put beyond Westfields reach when, with only 20 minutes to go, Thomas Trigg played a one-two with Webb.

The return ball was picked up by Trigg whose shot from well outside the box hit the back of the Westfields net, a goal that would have graced any cup final.

The end of the game was met with wild celebrations from the Ledbury players as they had gone the whole season unbeaten to achieve an amazing league and cup double.
