LAST Sunday the service at St James’ took Christian Aid as its theme and was led by Frances Betts. The children made a collage depicting the on-going work of Christian Aid, and signed a football representing life in the DR of Congo and each took home a balloon to advertise the week. A prayer tree was hung with envelopes with a prayer for the poor in other countries who will benefit from the door-to-door collections taking place this week.

Tomorrow, Saturday, a coffee morning to raise money for Christian Aid is being held at 33b Upton Road, Callow End from 10am till noon, plus cakes, plants, bric-a-brac and preserves. For more details ring Frances Betts on 01905 830816.

There is a gardeners market tomorrow at Callow End Village Hall from 1.30pm till 4.30pm organised by the local branch of the Cottage Garden Society. All welcome.

On Thursday, Callow End Village Hall Committee holds its AGM at 7.30pm. All are welcome to attend.

Another Shindig event is planned for Saturday, May 30 in Callow End Village Hall at 8pm. An Evening with Mervyn Stutter features Mervyn , a founder member of the Flying Pickets who is an actor, comedian, script writer and songwriter. He has worked in TV, radio, theatre and cabaret and promises an evening of great entertainment. Tickets are £10 and include a ploughman’s supper and licensed bar.
