POWICK Playing Field Association holds its AGM on Monday at 8pm in the small committee room in Powick Parish Hall. The meeting will be followed by a meeting of the Committee to discuss the fete in July. Please come and see what you can do to help.
Christian Aid Week begins this Sunday when envelopes will be distributed door-to-door. Please give generously for the work in places such as the Congo and Bangladesh and other areas of the world which suffer from disasters. A service will be held in St Matthias’ Church, Malvern on Sunday, May 10 at 6.30pm to mark Christian Aid Week.
Powick Guild meets this Tuesday at the Orchard Centre, Colletts Green, at 2.30pm when Kathy Stone will go through her exercise routines for keeping fit. Bookings will also be taken for the summer trip to Moreton–in-Marsh market on Tuesday, June 10. The coach will leave from the Four Seasons at 9.25am for the trip and costs £10.50, or £9.50 for seniors or children.
Link Nurseries in Hospital Lane opened its nurseries for a sale of plants last Monday Bank Holiday and will be open again to sell plants at bargain prices on the next Bank Holiday Monday on May 25. At the end of April a party was held to mark the retirement of Lesley Belwood after 23 years of working in the office at the Link Nurseries. Many clients and staff from the NHS attended to say Goodbye.
The funeral was held last Friday in St Peter’s Church, Powick, for the late Irene Haywood who with her late husband Bill were very much involved with the village and life in the community. She was especially known for her work in the church and for her support in the Women’s Branch of the Powick and Callow End Branch of the Royal British Legion. The service was conducted by Reverend David Nichol and readings were by daughter Jane and by Lily Chapman, representing the British Legion. Members of Powick Church Choir as well as members of the British Legion were in attendance. John Mason was the standard bearer.
This Sunday the service at St Peter’s at 11am will be led by The Friends of St Peter’s.
Powick Parish Council invites you to attend the Annual Parish Meeting in Powick Parish hall on Friday, May 15 at 8pm. Groups and societies within the parish are invited to submit a report either in person or writing. Any report should be submitted to the Parish Clerk by May 13 but may be given on the night. Powick Parish ramblers’ next walk is on Thursday, May 14 around Leigh Sinton and Bransford. The four mile flat walk will be led by David and Ginnie Russell. Please meet at 10am at the Swan at Newland.
