CHRISTIAN Aid week runs from May 10-16 and door-to-door collections will be taking place to support the world’s poor. A coffee morning will be held next Saturday, May 16 at 10am, at the home of Frances and Philip Betts at 33b Upton Road, Callow End. There will be bring-and-buy, cakes, preserves and plant sales till noon.
Sunday worship at St James’ this Sunday, May 10 will be on the theme of Christian Aid and will include Junior Church at 9.30am. At 4pm a Healing Service will be held, also at St James’, and will be led by the Readers. All are welcome.
The Cottage Garden Society Worcestershire Group is holding a Gardeners Market on Saturday, May 16 at Callow End Village Hall from 1.30pm till 4.30pm.
The AGM for Callow End Village Hall will be held in the hall at 7.30pm on Thursday, May 21. All members of the public are welcome.
Callow End Women’s Institute invite you to their Pudding Party on Saturday, May 16 in the village hall. Puddings will be served from 8pm and cost £5. The Western Front Association (Worcestershire and Herefordshire Branch) is now meeting regularly in callow End Village Hall, on the third Thursday of each month at 7.30pm. The Association aims to further interest in the Great War and to educate the public in the history from 1914-1918, with special reference to the Western Front. The next meeting is on Thursday, May 15 when Nial Cherry will talk on the Most Unfavourable Ground – The Battle of Loos, 1915. Douglas Haig, in a pre-battle report, described the proposed battlefield around Loos as ‘unfavourable ground’. Non members are always welcome and a donation of £3 at the door will be asked and this will include refreshments.
1st Callow End Rainbows held a fun day in April and the grand sum of £800 was made. Thank you to all who helped and supported the day and especially to the hosts at The Old Bush.
