OMENS are looking good for Bromyard’s town crier Peder Nielsen ahead of this weekend’s Spring Festival, after he scooped first prize in a championship held in Wiltshire.
Councillor Nielsen beat of stiff competition from across England to take the top prize in Melksham.
The Bromyard event, held at various locations around the town on Saturday and Sunday, will incorporate this year’s Town Crier’s Festival, where bellowers from all across the UK will compete.
Coun Nielsen said: “I had a fantastic day in Wiltshire. The previous town crier of Bromyard lives down in Melksham and he organised their first ever town crier’s competition.”
At least 17 town criers, including coun Nielsen, are expected in Bromyard this weekend with ‘shouts’ taking place at the town green at 11.45am and 3pm.
Other events due to take place include a May Pole dance by pupils from St Peter’s Primary, and live music at the Falcon Mews and the Rose and Lion pub.
