THE Bank Holiday weekend is to be a very special event for Malvern because this year’s Well-Dressing festival has been well publicised, sorry about the pun! The Royal Well just over the Wyche Cutting on the western slopes of the hills towards West Malvern, won a special award earlier in the year and is usually well worth a visit, sorry about the second pun! Please refer to the Wells column (another pun!) for the main events. In the Wyche, the Well-Dressing celebrations continue into Tuesday with the Curate of All Saints Church, the Reverend Steve Martin, performing a short ceremony at 11.30am at the Lower Wyche Spout at the foot of the Old Wyche Road. Please try to join in if you are able to get along there because the Wyche Residents are very proud of their spout and they are fortunate that it is to be blessed by their local Curate. Over the past few years, the Wyche residents have taken their well-dressing very seriously and dressed it beautifully. As it is a working day many people will be unable to attend the ceremony so please support it if you can.

During the evening of Wednesday, May 6, the Transition Malvern Hills group is showing a film called Mother Earth at 7.30pm in the committee room at Malvern Council House. All are welcome to go along. It should contain plenty of food for thought for the future of this planet that we all share.

The Venue which is the name for the proposed youth club for school years 10 and 11 and which is to be held at All Saints Church is coming along fine. A group of around eight youngsters, helped by 14 enthusiastic adults from the congregation, is currently decorating the crypt of the Church for this club and by all accounts, it is going well. They hope to have it up and running by the summer.

Organisers are once again hoping for record crowds at this year’s Three Counties Spring Garden Show which is next weekend from May 7 to May 10. One of the main attractions is the Eco home and garden area. Advance tickets are available from 01684 584924.

There is to be a local Three Choirs concert at Holy Trinity Church on May 9 at 7.30pm. Malvern Male Voice Choir has been invited to join the senior and junior choirs at Holy Trinity Church for a grand concert of choral music to suit all tastes. .

The new railway timetables for First Great Western and London Midland Services will be coming into force on May 17. A quick comparison with the old First Great Western timetable shows that some of the departures from Great Malvern towards London Paddington have changed by the odd minute. The really good news is that the new First Great Western pocket timetables have been printed in larger clearer print so are more user-friendly. Regular commuters and other passengers travelling to and from Worcester, all stations to Birmingham, Ledbury and Hereford will need to check their new times on London Midland Timetables too.
