IF the idea of the landlord of the Brewers Arms, West Malvern and the Bishop of Worcester crawling up the Worcestershire Beacon strikes you as totally surreal, think again! It isn’t. In fact it is exactly what is planned to take place later this year when Bishop John Inge and Trevor ‘Elvis’ Marston will set off together on hands and knees from the West of England car park up the side of the Malverns’ highest peak. It is part of a Brewers Arms scheme, devised by local regulars and supported much further afield, to raise £10,000 in aid of the St James’s C of E Primary School building fund and the Noah’s Ark charity. Much more will be heard of this soon. Meanwhile, you are reminded that this is April 24, not April 1!
Anther ambitious plan to raise money for the village school extension fund is also afoot – in this case to revive the West Malvern calendar next year. Previously published by the Friends of St James’s Church in 2007 and 2008, but not this year, a group of parents are working on a similar 2010 calendar, to be entitled The Beauty of the Malvern Hills. Photographers are once again invited to submit their best pictures of the local scene for possible inclusion. Photographers whose pictures are selected will receive a credit and a free copy of the calendar. Pictures should be submitted with name and contact number either digitally (preferred) to kay.meredith@virgin.net or by post to Kay Meredith, 24 Montpelier Road, West Malvern, Worcester, WR14 4BP no later than July 1. Further information from Kay on There will be another Bank Holiday car boot sale on the Playing Fields on Monday, May 4, 10am-2pm, admission free, booters £5 per car, set up from 9.30am. Contact: Richard Hammond on 07533 710651.
May 4 is also a possible date (yet to be confirmed) for the Brewers Arms v West Malvern CC cricket match which had to be postponed last weekend due to the wet conditions at the club’s Mathon Court ground.
