WELLAND Lions’ form had dropped in recent weeks leaving them safely in third place in the table but with little hope of finishing higher.

With the pressure now off them they played some of their most attacking football of the season and gained a comprehensive victory over Ombersley.

Lewi Hobbs added solidarity to central midfield and by playing a more holding role, he gave license for the other players to go forward.

Defenders Jonny Amery and Wilf Owen kept things solid at the back.

Playing into the wind in the first-half, Welland were happy to take a lead into the break.

This was courtesy of two own goals and a fine triple save by goalkeeper Hayden Coley, who picked up an injury and was replaced at half-time by Alex Watkins.

With the wind behind them in the second-half Welland pressed their advantage home.

Jim Smith scored a hat-trick, Hobbs steered a shot in from a narrow angle and Henry Dyde and Sam Whitton also added goals.
