WANDERERS got back to winning ways with a hard-fought victory over Westbury.
In the first-half Malvern took the lead when goalkeeper Scott Jones kicked an excellent clearance deep into the Westbury half and striker Jordan Roan timed the bounce perfectly evading two Westbury defenders before striking a fierce volley which left the keeper with no chance.
Shortly afterwards, Westbury equalised but Malvern kept playing an excellent passing game working unselfishly for one another.
James McDermott was again outstanding on the left wing and went very close with a shot just past the post with the keeper well beaten.
In recent weeks, Malvern have looked very strong defensively and, once again keeper Scott Jones dealt with anything that came his way with great confidence.
Charlie Holden-Jones continued his good run of form on the right side of defence and made a number of timely interceptions and clearances.
Late into the second-half Malvern had two free-kicks on the edge of the Westbury penalty area but although these were well-struck by Jake Norris, the Westbury defence held firm.
Malvern, however, were not to be denied their winner and this was particularly important as it was the first time this season that they have managed to score more than one goal in a game. Once again it was the tireless Jordan Roan who completed a fine run with another decisive volley where, once again, the Westbury keeper had no chance.
This win lifts Malvern off the bottom of the table and is no more than they deserve after a string of results where they have either won or lost by a single goal.
Despite losing the first five games of the season, they have now conceded no more than one goal in a game since early November and have won three and drawn two out of their last eight matches.
