COACH Danny Wren travelled with his u9s team to Kempsey this weekend.
Newtown pressed from the off with Bray going close inside four minutes shooting powerfully over the home team's crossbar. Shortly afterwards Bray unleashed a trademark thunderbolt from outside the box to open the scoring for the visitors.
Kempsey rallied and attacked in waves but found no reply as Newtown made good use of the downhill advantage. Bains made neat work of breaking down a Kempsey attack whilst Dickenson relieved the pressure by wisely shepherding the ball out of play.
Shortly afterwards Smith confidently slotted home a well-taken corner from Bray to make it 2-0 to the visitors. Further attempts from Bray, Smith, Rodway and Hill all went unconverted.
On 20 minutes the referee pointed to the spot following a Newtown handball. Rodway, who had pulled on the gloves at half-time, made an outstanding save to deny Kempsey .
Newtown then took control with intelligent play from McCullough and Dickinson linking up. Hill was unlucky with a powerful half-volley before the predatory instincts of McCullough paid off when he picked up the ball in front of the Kempsey goal and tucked it away for Newtown’s third in an impressive display.
Hill again went close in the final minute when he made a tenacious run, which saw the keeper come off his line to claim the ball bravely from Hill’s feet
