WELLAND 7, DROITWICH 2.
Mercian u10s division one.
DEBUTANT Jim Smith scored four as the newly-promoted rivals opened their seasons.
Welland led after five minutes when Amery collected Dyde’s blocked shot and fired home.
It was soon two after Whitton knocked a high ball forward which Dyde controlled and scored on the turn.
The third came when Dyde moved out wide and fed Smith, who opened his account. The Droitwich keeper then failed to hold Watkins’ shot and Amery pounced on the loose ball for his brace and Welland’s fourth.
After the break, Dyde again provided the wing play to feed Smith for his second.
Smith’s hat-trick came after he cut-inside and found the net following Whitton’s long ball forward. Droitwich scored a consolation before Dyde fed the ball through to Smith, who calmly placed his shot under the keeper. As Welland’s midfield surged forward, Droitwich scored a late second goal.
