A CAT rescue charity that had a huge response to a rehoming appeal last month still has many cats in need of new homes.
Last month we reported how the Worcester and district branch of Cats Protection had been inundated with more than 100 cats and kittens over the summer.
Since teh, 55 cats and kittens were homed in August and another 15 have already found new owners this month. But the branch still has 87 cats in its care.
Lynn Glaze, branch co-ordinator, said: "We have had some fantastic publicity - as a result the phones went into meltdown with more than 300 calls throughout August.
"Many people wanted specific-coloured kittens which we couldn't provide straight away, and some people were not prepared to wait. Many people, even after their home check, did not bother to contact the foster parents regarding the kittens and were not heard of again.
"We did, however, manage to home all the black-and-white kittens which we had ready and 34 kittens were homed in August with another 25 people waiting on kittens still only a few weeks old.
"We have also helped to home other cats and kittens by passing on their details to local rescue centres if we could not 'supply' what was required."
Despite this, the branch took in many more cats whose owners have had to leave their homes due to financial issues and were unable to keep their pets. A large number of these were multi-cat households, so the branch took in several cats from each, including nine from one home.
Cats in need of new homes include Roxy, a pretty three-year-old tortoiseshell, brother and sister Tigger and Piglet, a neutered black cat called Daisy, black-and-white Sophie and Sally, a long haired, black-and-white female. All these cats are neutered.
If you can provide a loving home for any of the cats, please phone the branch on 01905 820348.
Some of the cats in the charity's care can be seen at www.worcestercats.org.uk The branch is keen to get a fund-raising team going to finance the increase in costs to help care for all the cats.
Mrs Glaze said: "We have had four new foster mums start recently, so we hope to be able to start work on the waiting list and get some of the adult cats in for rehoming.
"Fran Holder and her team at the Cats Protection shop in St John's, Worcester, do a fantastic job but we must find some other ways of raising funds."
Anyone who has any fund-raising ideas or could volunteer for the branch should call 01905 820348.
