A FIRST-of-its-kind pump track is set to be built in Malvern.

And it is hoped the new track will give Malvern something it is missing as well as being the start of a flurry of new play facilities.

Malvern's town clerk has confirmed the pump track near Adam Lee Play Area is expected to begin early next year. 

This comes after Malvern Town Council was given full planning permission to build on the site at Meadowsweet Recreation Ground last month.

The track will be publicly accessible to the surrounding community and town and will look to serve nearby housing developments which have been built recently. 

According to planning documents, the undulating asphalt track will measure 70 metres by 20 metres.

Having secured the pump track, the town council will now look to add to the existing play area and create a new wetland area on the other side of the land. 

Clark and Kent contractors have now been given the contract to build the Pump track. 

The town clerk said: "This project has been a long time coming so we are very pleased this is moving forward. 

“A pump track is something that’s currently missing in Malvern.

"The contractors have visited the site and they are very keen to get going, the hope is now that the build will get started in early 2025."

A public consultation on the initial plans found that 83 per cent of people supported the idea of a pump track located at the Adam Lee site. 

At a recent meeting of the Malvern Town Council, images of Worcester's recently completed pump track at Battenhall Park were handed out to excited members of the public to give them an impression of what the Malvern track would look like. 

The bulk of the funding - some £86,000 - is coming from Section 106 funding.

This is money paid by developers that is used for community infrastructure projects. 

In this case, it was paid to the planning authority, Malvern Hills District Council, which gave the town council permission to use it for the pump track project.
