A Malvern environmental campaign group has celebrated four years of their weekly 'Vigil for the Earth'.

Extinction Rebellion Malvern has regularly gathered in the town centre steps every Saturday since October 2020, including Christmas Day, to raise awareness about climate change and nature crises.

They sit in silence while distributing leaflets and speaking with passersby.

Group member, Isabel Jones, said: "We sit to show our concern and bring love for the Earth into the heart of our community.

"While we are proud to have maintained our dedication to the vigil for four years, we are deeply saddened that this remains necessary to call out the harms being inflicted upon the natural world and climate.

"We’ve just had the wettest 18 months on record and over the 4 years we have seen the impact on British farmers and therefore the cost of living.

"We are peacefully raising the alarm.”

Member Sue Matthews added: "It’s important to keep this on the agenda and continue to raise awareness.

"The solutions are out there and it is not too late to act.

"It costs much less to prevent these crises than to clear up after them."

Extinction Rebellion Malvern invites anyone interested to join them on Belle Vue Terrace steps on Saturdays from midday.
