TRIBUTES have been paid to a long-serving Scouting volunteer who touched countless lives across Worcestershire.

Jackie Green, who was often seen behind the counter at the Scout Shop Worcester in St John's, has died aged 75.

She was a friendly face behind in the shop and would often sew newly earned badges onto children's uniforms.

She spent 30 years volunteering with the Scouts and even longer with Girl Guides, where her passion lay.

She was most known for running the Scout Shop Worcester in Bromyard Road which she had originally set up in Pershore Market.

"She was very well known and people used to come from as far as Hereford to go to her shop.

"She was a lovely lady and you had to know Jackie to get on with her.

"She was very knowledgeable, she was a nice lady and will be sadly missed in the community and in the shop."

Brian Jenkins, the Scouts' district lead, said is was an understatement to say she would be greatly missed.

"People visiting the shop were not there for a couple of minutes but for hours," he said.

"Jackie was a very private person but in Scouts Shop Worcester she talked for hours and hours to everybody.

"She will be sorely missed - not just in Worcester but across the county.

"We may say that about many people [that we have lost] but this is especially the case for Jackie.

"She was liked by many people and not only serves Worcester but the entirety of Worcestershire.

"She was a volunteer. She supported and dedicated a lot of time to us."

He said she often helped many parents and children in her shop and would also spend time helping parents by sewing badges onto uniforms.

A spokesperson for the 10th Worcester Scout Group said: "We were all very saddened to hear of the passing of Jackie Green who ran the Scout Shop in Worcester for so many years.

"Jackie's passion for scouting was contagious, and her impact will continue to be felt through the countless lives she touched.

"Rest in peace, Jackie."

For many years, the Scout Shop has been an outlet for leaders and parents to find camping equipment, badges, and uniforms.

Ms Green has also supported other local causes like the Ukraine Relief Fund by donating a large box of ladies’ garments.
