MORE than 1,000 homes across Worcestershire were left without power today, including 977 in Worcester, here's why.

Homes spread across Malvern, Pershore and Worcester, totalling more than 1,100, were left without power for hours today (October 9) due to damage and faults across National Gird's network.

A power cut was first reported in Worcester at around 8.30am in the morning due to damage to a high voltage network that affected 977 homes.

Within an hour power was restored to all but one property.

Homes in Pershore suffered with no electricity as a fault on a low voltage network caused 63 homes to lose power.

Similarly in Malvern, another low-voltage power cut affected 64 homes causing The Beauchamp Arms to close.

National Grid said it was aware of the issue but the outages were not connected.

A spokesperson for National Grid said: "We are aware of a power cut affecting Worcester this morning, and power cuts currently affecting Pershore and Malvern this afternoon.

"These incidents are not related, but are individual network faults that our engineers are currently working hard to resolve.

"We'd like to thank customers for their patience and understanding while we work at pace to get them reconnected, and are sorry for any inconvenience caused today."
