A 'family orientated' primary school has merged with a nearby pre-school to provide a full range of activities for students.

Broadwas CE Primary School has merged with Bumblebees Pre School which they said will allow both organisations to pool resources for the benefit of the children.

The primary school currently educates 71 children from the area and the hope is that children in pre-school will move up into the connecting primary school creating as little disruption as possible.

James Dennis, headteacher at Broadwas CE Primary School said: "The merge will give children a full range of provisions to all of our children at the school.

"Previously the two organisations were separate but the pre-school was on site which seemed a bit strange.

"We want children to come from the pre-school and continue through to the primary school and enjoy a full provision.

"The move will allow us to pool resources and staff and in the future we are hoping to upgrade the building, however that is not in our remit at the moment."

The school is currently building a new main entrance that will feature improved disabled access, a brand new set of disabled toilets and a safer, more modern entryway to the school.

Mr Dennis continued: "So far we have had lots of positive feedback and everyone is excited from staff and students to the parents.

"It has been a long time coming so I'm delighted and I think people are excited that we are making a positive change.

"It was absolutely the right decision and I think all parties are better off now.

"The preschool is providing wrap-around care for parents who cannot pick up their children when school finishes.

"We are a family-orientated village school with a church ethos and we are keen for more children to join us.

"We have spaces throughout the school and we are looking forward to people seeing what we have to offer at our open morning."

Broadwas CE Primary School is holding an open morning on Thursday, October 17 from 9.30am to midday.
