The play, adapted by Rachel Wagstaff and directed by Alastair Whatley, dives into a gripping tale of love and loss.

Set in pre-war France, the story follows a young Englishman, Stephen Wraysford (Esler), who becomes entwined in a passionate and perilous romance with Isabelle Azaire (Russell).

As the First World War erupts, Stephen finds himself leading his men through the horrors of the Battle of the Somme, clutching onto memories of Isabelle as his world crumbles.

The narrative encapsulates the turmoil and tenderness of human relationships amidst the backdrop of war.

Birdsong's return to the stage is a celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Faulks novel.

The production is working in collaboration with the Royal British Legion throughout the tour.
