WORCESTER will have a Pride event this year after volunteers banded together after fears the city would not be able to hold one. 

And organisers of Worcester City Pride have promised the event will be a wonderful representation of diversity and inclusion. 

Pride will take place at the Hive, The Artery Studios and Arch 27 between 1pm and 5pm on Saturday, September 28. 

In previous years, Worcestershire Pride, which included a parade through the city, took place in July but did not take place in 2024.

This sparked fears an event would not happen but a group of volunteers took action to ensure Worcester was able to still celebrate pride. 

Raine Wallis, Worcester Pride's secretary, said: "We were also worried that Worcester wouldn't have a pride this year so at an event called Queer Town Hall earlier this year the community decided to form a new committee and make sure we had one. 

"We are thrilled to be able to put something on, both as a chance to bring the whole community together and to show off all the amazing and talented people and organisations Worcester's queer community has to offer. 

"It's so important for the community to have an event where we can come together, celebrate how far we've come and still highlight how much more there is to do for our community."

Events at this year's Pride will include a dog show featuring categories such as waggiest tail, best dressed, and dog the judges would most like to take home.

There will also be poetry performances from Out2gether, a community group for LGBTQ+ adults across Worcestershire. 

Entertainment will come on the main stage outside the Artery Studios from 1.20pm and will feature live music and drag acts. 

RuPaul's Drag Race UK star Ginny Lemon will be hosting a special show on the main stage.

And there will be plenty of stalls to look around as well as lots of food to try and a family and children's area to visit. 

Having been set up, Worcester City Pride will now be aiming to hold an event every year. 

With this year's event being the first run under the new committee, it will be a bit smaller than usual. 

However, the committee is currently working on plans to make next year's event even bigger and better.
