A VILLAGE extravaganza took on a new dimension this year.

The Malvern Wells annual fete saw the Malvern mayor turning her hand and voice successfully to announce the various different entertainment that was going on.

Councillor Marilyn Birks, of the Pickersleigh ward, has been on ‘announcing duties’ at previous fetes but this year, after being elected in May, she carried out her duties complete with mayoral chain.

The weather stayed kind and the fete on the village green continued with sunshine and lots of smiles.

Among the attractions were a display of classic cars, a sack race, dog show, music by Malvern Chase Brass Band and performances by Worcester Ukulele Club Band.

The ukelele group had a “super afternoon” and raised £197.28 for Spectrum Days, this year’s chosen charity, to be added to the current running total of just short of £9,000.

Spectrum Days is based in Droitwich and supports young adults with profound and multiple learning disabilities.

The ukelele club is a friendly group of like-minded people who like to get together to play a wide range of varied music.

The community brass band has strong links to The Chase School and plays throughout the year at a series of fetes and events along with carol sessions in the run-up to Christmas.
