IT may be time to switch on the heating as temperatures across the country plummet due to a blast of Arctic air.

Forecasters have predicted change is on the way this weekend as an Arctic blast could cause temperatures to plummet to single figures.

The change in weather will cause some UK areas to see snow however Worcestershire will not be affected by this.

Jo Farrow, forecaster at Net Weather, said some rural areas may experience spells of grass frost and maybe even air frost.

This morning (Friday), residents woke up with temperatures reaching 4C which will eventually reach 16C as the highest temperature for the day.

Temperatures are expected to rise slightly to 6C, the predicted lowest temperature on Saturday, and 8C on Sunday.

Ms Farrow said: "Change is on the way, ready for the weekend.

"Pressure is rising out to the west, and as an Atlantic area of high pressure edged over Britain (last night), this shower activity will subdue it.

"The winds will drop out with clear skies and the temperatures will fall away.

"Under the clear skies, there is a chance of seeing the Aurora.

"It’s more likely for Scotland, perhaps Northern Ireland and northern England, but with the lack of clouds, it might be worth a look, even if you have to wrap up warm.

"Many inland areas will be down into single figures with rural spots at risk of a grass frost, even an air frost."

Ms Farrow added as the weekend progresses, it will feel warmer with sunny spells and temperatures in the high teens.

The air will feel different too and no longer from the Arctic.

According to the Met Office, things will begin to get warmer as the country heads into next week, with 20C being the average highest temperature between September 16 and 20.
