A POPULAR tribute artist from Malvern will ‘walk the line’ again as he brings his latest show close to home in Worcester.
Award-winning Clive John performs his Johnny Cash Roadshow at the Swan Theatre on Sunday, September 15 at 7.30pm, the day after taking it to The Courtyard, Hereford, on Saturday, September 14.
His act has even drawn praise from legendary American singer-songwriter Cash’s granddaughter Caitlin Crowell.
She said: “Clive captures my grandfather just as he was.”
The Sin and Redemption tour sees an all-new production set on a Folsom Prison-style stage.
John pays homage to the ‘Man in Black’ in his warming, unique way alongside his iconic wife June Carter (Meghan Thomas) and some of the best musicians around playing double bass, fender telecaster and acoustic guitars, drums, piano, trumpet and four-part vocal harmonies.
The audience can experience the versatility and depth of timeless songs as all the hits are delivered such as Walk the Line, Ring of Fire, Jackson, Orange Blossom Special and Boy Named Sue.
They are joined by some of the darker, more troubled material from the later American Recordings like Hurt.
This year’s show is an emotional roller-coaster through Cash’s career.
Before he started the Cash tribute John was already a successful singer/songwriter. After his first paid gig aged 15 he was signed by Dublin’s Tandem Records in 1999 and recorded his first album In A Whisper.
He then moved to America where he lived for six months.
John appeared on television and did many performances around New York, New Jersey, Boston, Hartford and Connecticut as a solo act.
Missing home, he returned to Malvern and released second album Purple Sky in 2002.
As a solo act performing relentlessly up and down the country, John slowly found he slotted into the country music genre.
He produced further albums Life, Another Day, Impressions, Time and The Spirit.
The title song of the latter won an award as best song of the year at the 2011 British Country Music Awards while the album was nominated as best album.
His eighth album A Brand New Beginning was recorded in 2017.
