A FRIGHTENED sheep ended up in the centre of Great Malvern after being chased off the Malvern Hills by a black dog.

Around 7:45pm on Thursday,  a number of sheep were chased near St Ann's Well by a black dog.

No injuries were recorded but one ewe was found in the centre of Great Malvern after being chased all the way from the Hills.

This comes weeks after a sheep was injured after being attacked on the Malvern Hills.

Malvern Hills Trust has once again urged dog owners to keep their pets on a lead when walking near livestock or within the grazing compartments.

A spokesperson for the Trust said: "Thankfully none were injured but one ewe was found in the centre of Great Malvern and would have suffered an enormous amount of stress and fear from being chased all the way from the Hills.

"The sheep and dog were also at significant risk of being hit by a car on the main roads that surround the hills.

"Livestock worrying, which includes chasing, is a criminal offence and dog owners found to have allowed their pet to worry livestock could face a fine, or in the worst case, see their dog destroyed."

People took to Facebook to express their anger at the incident.

One said: "I am sick of people who don't control their dogs and I am a dog owner."

Another said: "There are too many irresponsible owners who don't think the rules apply to them, there needs to be on-the-spot fines."

And one who went on a walk on the hills on Tuesday, July 30, said it was 'unreal' how many dogs were off their leads.

The Trust has urged people to check Stockwatch before they visit and plan their route so they know where to find cattle and sheep and where to put pets on a lead.
