THE WOMAN who was left fighting for her life following an assault at the Upton Blues Festival has left hospital.

West Mercia Police has confirmed the woman, who hit her head on a steel pipe following the incident, is now out of hospital and in a still condition.

However, she will continue to receive ongoing care following the injury.

The assault took place at around 7pm on Waterside on Sunday, July 21, during which a 56-year-old woman was pushed and fell, hitting her head on a steel pipe.

This initially caused the woman's face to bleed but she was later taken to hospital with a life-threatening head injury.

Last week, a 22-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm following the incident at Upton Blues Festival.

Mike Blissett, who was in charge of security at the time, said his team did not witness anything but were on the scene within 30 seconds and gave her medical treatment immediately.

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "The woman who was injured is now out of hospital.

"She is in a still condition but will still be receiving on-going care."

Following the assault, many readers wrote to the Gazette offering their well-wishes to the woman.

Violet Bellamy said: "Poor lady. I hope she makes a full recovery, and hopefully, the person who did this will be caught."

Pete Liston also wished the woman well and a speedy recovery, while Beth Farmer said hopefully justice would be done for the poor lady.

Following the assault, several readers contacted the Gazette bemoaning the lack of security at the festival compared to previous years.

Others said they had never known anything like the assault happening at the Upton Blues Festival in all the years they had attended.

Mr Blissett defended the number of security staff at the festival, adding there were ten security staff in the town, 20 on the campsite and many more elsewhere, with security increased during the evenings.
