A BOOK lover has fulfilled her dream of showcasing her passion with her community by opening a new shop in Upton Upon Severn.

Sian Fuller has opened 'The Violet Bookshop' on Old Street after a short stint open for Upton Blues Festival.

This is the first bookshop Mrs Fuller has opened having worked in pastoral support at Worcester Sixth Form College until recently.

And she said she wants to use her new shop to help revive a dying trend of people reading for pleasure.

Mrs Fuller has always had a passion for reading and writing, completing a degree in English Literature.

After years of wanting to open her own shop, she took the first plunge into the industry by starting a website back in January.

From there, she started looking for a venue to open her first in-person shop.

She told the Gazette: "I've always thought I'd like to open my own bookshop, so this is a bit like a dream come true.

"We have books here for all ages from children to adults and also stock fiction and non-fiction books.

"Trying to open my own shop while working in education at Worcester Sixth Form College and having children has been a major balancing act, but I am so glad I did it."

Mrs Fuller added the experience of running her own shop has been 'really positive' so far.

"Opening during the blues festival was good as there were so many people in town.

"Everyone has been really lovely so far, there are plenty of locals who have found their way to me, I am quite lucky to have found somewhere as good as this."

She said she was looking to use her shop as a platform to promote local authors and get more people to read.

"I would like to stock work by more local authors and would love to look at running events for authors.

"I would also want to work with schools and the wider community so we can get more people reading.

"Not many people read for pleasure anymore so hopefully we can help encourage that."
