COUNTY council chiefs are looking to take action to deal with a busy Malvern road which has become a crash hotspot.

A crash on Madresfield Road this week has prompted calls from concerned residents for measures to help prevent further incidents from happening.

People highlighted the mini roundabout on Madresfield Road as a particular problem area and claimed the issue had been going on for years with 'countless deaths and serious injuries.'

Now Worcestershire County Council said it will look at any traffic calming measures after a police report has been submitted to them.

The latest smash happened on Tuesday, with eyewitnesses saying it took place near Prospect View medical centre.

A road closure was put in place.

People took to social media to express their concerns about the road, in particular near the mini roundabout.

One man said: "I wonder how many accidents will happen before speed cameras or some kind of traffic light system is added.

"This has been going on for years with countless deaths and serious injuries."

Another described the road as a 'bad accident spot' and suggested people should submit formal complaints to local councillors so the county council could begin looking at highway amendments.

A spokesperson for West Mercia Police said: "We were called to a collision involving two vehicles, on Madresfield Road in Malvern, at around 8.30am on Tuesday, July 9.

"Officers remained on the scene directing traffic while the vehicles were waiting to be recovered.

"No injuries or arrests have been reported."

A spokesperson for Worcestershire County Council added: “We are awaiting a police report following the recent accident.

"Once this has been received we will then look at any traffic calming measures that may be required at this location with the local county councillor.”

Cllr Beverley Nielsen said: “I’m very sorry to hear there’s been an accident on Madresfield Road but relieved to hear that no one has been injured I understand.

“I have asked for a Vehicle Activated Sign (VAS) to be positioned on Madresfield Road but this is usually positioned closer towards Malvern.

“I’ve asked highways to see if this could be moved closer to the lower end of the road close to the mini roundabout near Prospect View Medical Centre which is near the site of this accident I am told.

“Otherwise, like highways, I’m keen to hear the main findings of the police accident report.”
