Plans to convert a former post office into two homes have been given the go-ahead - despite a shortfall in parking.

Gandolfi House in Wells Road, Malvern, housed a post office until May 2021.

An application has now been approved to divide the five-storey building into two properties.

The first, number 211 Wells Road will be made up of the ground floor of the building, which is level with the street, and the two upper floors.

The second, number 213 will be the two lower ground floors, the lowest of which is level with the back garden and will include a conservatory.

According to planning documents: “The ground to the side slopes down very steeply and has a large number of trees and bushes going down to the second lower ground level.

“The site has approximately one acre of land so there is ample amenity space for two properties.

“The current drive has just been granted planning permission and is being extended to accommodate more off-road parking.”

Both properties will have separate back gardens but because of the nature of the building, they will both overlook one of the gardens.

Planning officers say the loss of retail space is acceptable as there is a post office 2.4 miles from the site, as well as a Texaco garage and Morrisons Daily store a short distance from the property.
